Mass Governor Calling All Treatment Entrepreneurs: 400+ NEW BEDS  E-mail
Addiction Treatment Industry Newswire

12/24/2015 -ATIN - Gov. Charlie Baker of Massachusetts wants 416 new psych and treatment beds in the state by the end of 2016, and that's on top of the 300 new beds already in place that Baker has brought since he took office. Add that to the slightly more than 4,000 beds the state already has and it amounts to a more than a 17 percent jump in state bed space, according to published reports coming out of the New England state.

Call to Treatment Entrepreneurs

And Gov. Baker isn't being shy about basically asking treatment entrepreneurs to line up, hat in hand for some state funding to help build the centers, where the vast majority of the new 400+ beds are expected to be privately built. "Most of the beds are going to end up being privately created," Baker told the local press recently. "I think a combination of the statutory changes that have taken place, the funding that's been made available for this - you're going to see people responding creatively."

Details Coming.

Because many of the new programs are still in the permitting stage, the Dept of Public Health has yet to get into specific details, such as the locations of the centers, the type of programs and the number of beds per facility, reports say.
