Addiction Treatment Industry Newswire - Newswires
March 2012

03/10/2012 -ATIN- Practical Recovery, a non AA-based addiction treatment center alcohol rehab and drug rehab based in San Diego, has opened a couple of addiction treatment residential programs using a unique combination of the California Six-Bed Model and the Florida Model. The coed Reunion program appears to be a higher end offering, while the men only program appears to be lower cost, where insurance is accepted - a relative rarity in the cash-pay dominated Southern California residential private addictions alcohol and drug rehab market. Founded and operated by Dr. Thomas Horvath, a focal critic of the traditional 12-Step model of care that dominates the addiction treatment business throughout the nation, a psychologist who calls his approach "collaborative addiction treatment." Practical Recovery's new programs operate in two homes with six beds each, Reunion in tony La Jolla. Horvath has been operating intensive outpatient services for a number of years, often linking those services to the sober living services that Practical Recovery also operates. While non traditional, in other words, non-AA-based, addiction treatment is the exception, Practical Recovery is far from alone in trying to occupy this niche of the business. St Gregory's Retreat Center of Arizona is an example of high-quality care in the non-traditional addictions niche and has grown rapidly to over 90-beds. Passages in Malibu, which famously touts a "cure" for addiction, is an example in the very high end of the market. Depending on the degree of individual counseling, Practical Recovery's Florida Model program- something they call Treatment in Residence where clients can elect to stay in luxury sober homes - ranges in cost from about $11K to $24K.
